Critic's Pick | Summer Shorts Festival

Published: Friday, May 23, 2008

As if you couldn't tell from the scorching weather, it's time for City Theatre to crank up its Summer Shorts Festival, the popular annual event that demonstrates good plays come in all sizes. Steve Trovillion, aka 'Mr. Summer Shorts,' returns to the acting company in a number of roles -- including the title one in the world premiere of Paul Rudnick's Sheepish, about the world's first openly gay sheep. The eight shows in Program A of this year's ''Signature Shorts'' lineup debut at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Carnival Studio Theater at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. Program B features nine plays, with performances beginning 7:30 p.m. May 30. Both programs run at the Arsht through June 22 (they move to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts June 26-29).

Program A is performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday; Program B is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 5:30 p.m. Sunday. A ticket to either Program A or Program B is $37, and on weekends food is available between shows for $18. Two other Summer Shorts programs, Shorts 4 Kids! and the late-night Undershorts, will join the Arsht lineup June 12-21. For information, call 305-949-6722 or visit www.arshtcenter.org.
