CityWrights: A Professional Weekend for Playwrights

City Theatre will host the third annual CityWrights conference from June 19-23, 2013 @ EPIC Hotel in Downtown Miami. The weekend will consist of a symposium of writing, performances, panels and conversations, professional development and great networking. Playwrights will work-shop and network with Master playwrights and theatre industry professionals from all over the country.

The 2012 conference featured playwrights Christopher Durang & Leslie Ayvazian, HowlRound’s Polly Carl, Theatrical Producer Joan Stein, Atlantic Theatre Company’s Associate Artistic Director Christian Parker, Samuel French Publishing Representatives, and Dramatists Guild Representatives.

On the Road With Shorts -

Ten Minute Plays that are fun and good for you!

City Theatre has completed the 2013 Shorts4Kids School Tour! This year’s series of short plays focused on issues impacting today students including acceptance, differences, and overcoming bullying. The 50 minute program incorporated music between plays and included a lively talk-back between the actors, students and teachers about the messages of the plays, playwriting and life in the theatre, after each performance. These post show discussions served as further developing the very relevant issues within the lives of today’s youth. City Theatre took this engaging and fun educational program to 21 schools throughout Miami-Dade County during May 2013, and overall this program has reached over 10,000 students. City Theatre is grateful to the Carnival Foundation, The Children’s Trust and the Miami-Dade Pubic School System for nurturing this educational program making it available to the children in our community. A very special thanks goes to Miami-Dade County School Board, Chairman Dr. Lawrence Feldman, Dr. Martin Karp, Ms. Raquel Regalado and Dr. Marta Perez for their unique attention to arts education within the schools.
