City Theatre Awarded National Theatre Company Grant from the American Theatre Wing

One of five U.S. theatre companies named to the American Theatre Wing's 2025 National Theatre Company Grants cohort, recognized for innovative work with living American playwrights.

The cohort includes Breaking Wave Theatre Company (Guam), Two River Theater (Red Bank, NJ), Goat in the Road Productions (New Orleans), Shabach Enterprise / Fade To Black (Houston), and City Theatre (Miami). The grant supports HOMEGROWN, City Theatre's playwright development program for emerging Miami-based writers from communities historically underrepresented on the American stage.

Launched in 2021, HOMEGROWN commissions, develops, and produces new short plays by Miami playwrights, supports them through workshops and dramaturgy, and brings their work to Miami audiences through Summer Shorts and full-length productions. The American Theatre Wing's investment carries HOMEGROWN through October 2026 to September 2027, including the world premiere of Liberty City Vignettes at the Sandrell Rivers Theater.
